Fabulous Fridays: Ahoy Mate! Nautical Styles That Float My Boat

Are you like me and already sick of Winter? Or do you have a fabulous getaway planned you haven’t told me about? I sure don’t. Yet. The upcoming bitterly cold weekend has me eagerly awaiting Spring's arrival. And by the amount of email blasts from retailers and designers announcing their Spring collections, it must be soon. I can only hope.

One of the must-have looks this Spring are nautical-inspired and I hope you're going to love them as much as I do. These timeless and ageless styles are always enjoying a comeback on the fashion scene, but this year the trend is receiving high fashion marks. Normally I think of the traditional blue and white stripes as have a summery sensibility, but the designs I'm seeing are an updated versions of these classic looks with feminine and glamorous twists that could be worn year-round.

Get ready to set sail on the high seas with sailor pants and skirts, striped tops, rope trims, espadrilles and straw totes. Just be sure to shop for your stripes with care. It's also possible to go overboard with this look. As always with any trend, moderation is key.

You can rock the boat and get your wardrobe in ship shape form with a few of these tricks:

Team a black and white or navy and white striped top with clean white pants. If navy isn't your thing, go for a red stripe. It will take you from classic to foxy sailorette with ease.

This is a classic blue and white sailor striped knit top from Jean Paul Gaultier. I love the chiffon cap at the shoulders and back for the added superhero effect.

Here is sailor-inspired top by Sonia Rykiel but with red and white stripes.

Sailor pants are such an adorable way to incorporate this season's trend. Celebrity favorite and mine J Brand also has an easy and casual way to look nautical.

The buttons are an adorable touch to these jeans by J. Brand who are well-known for their skinny styles.

Add a dash of color by incorporating red. This could be a cool red bag, shoes or a pretty beaded necklace.

A classic spring/summer style by Christian Louboutin.

This chic little bag from Serpui Marie has a sweet summer flair about it.

When it comes to beachwear, nautical styles will be sure to be making waves. They are elegant and chic and always look stunning.

Splish splash away in this navy striped swimsuit from M Missoni.

Any true sailor style won’t be complete with oversized shades.

These oversized sunglasses from Marc by Marc Jacobs will block the sun and can hide those dark circles.

The sailor look has really taken a glamorous turn this season. Tell me, are you ready to dive into this trend?

  3. I've always liked sailor pants...I have a pair of pants by Zac Posen (I think) that plays off that look...I'll have to dig them out and take a picture.
